Grief to Gratitude
I
In a time of grief, we may hear, “you are doing all you can,” “you have done all you can,” “there’s nothing more you could do.”
This may offer little comfort.
Perhaps, because our attention is on what we are unable to do, what is unrecoverable, what is inevitable. What is missing, what is lost.
The focus is on helplessness, the end.
II
Alternatively, what may serve as Divine consolation is asking:
What is there to celebrate?
Turning our gaze, reflecting, becoming aware of the blessings God has generously bestowed upon us, and whom we love.
Shifting from what is lost and feeling helpless, to gratitude and joy in the present.
In awe of life, with faith for our inevitable reunion.
Tears of gratitude for what we have been given.
